In December 2000, Wayo Women's University accepted eight dietetic trainees from abroad can a course of dietary and nutritious improvement for women leaders sponsored by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). They were from Botswana, Ethiopia, Ghana, Malawi, Papua New Guinea, Samoa and Tanzania.
Together with the training course carried out, the mutual exchanges of culture between the participants were made and brought a significant result for us.
The contents of the training course included lectures on such subjects as the nutrition assessment planning of the Recommended Dietary Allowances for the Japanese, guidance on breast milk and infant formulas and how to give weaning foods. The course also included practical training such on the assessment of food intake based on the food that the trainees actually ate, on the analytical methods of food intake by using computer and other techniques. In the training sescjons food processing, they learned the preservation techniques for vegetables and fruits, which will be utilized in their home countries.
All the trainees appreciated the training course very much as a good tool for the improvement of nutrition and food intake in their countries. |
