JDA as a member of the AFDA

About AFDA

The Asian Federation of Dietetics Associations (AFDA) was formed in 1990 as a means to support and advance the profession of dietetics in Asia. The activities conducted by the AFDA conform to the objectives of the ICDA, such as studies related to the education and work of dietitians and nutritionists, and raising the standards of education and the profile of dietitians and nutritionists in the region.

The Asian Federation of Dietetic Associations hosts a congress every four years, providing more opportunities, between the International Congress of Dietetics, for dietitians and nutritionists to exchange knowledge and perspectives about dietetics education and practice and providing a venue for ICDA representatives to meet with leaders of the dietetics profession in Asia.

ACD2022 to be held in Japan

About the Asian Congress of Dietetics

The Asian Congress of Dietetics (ACD) is organized every 4 years by the Asian Federation of Dietetic Associations (AFDA). The first ACD was held in Indonesia in 1994, followed by Korea (1998), Malaysia (2002), Philippines (2006), Thailand (2011) and Taiwan (2014). Following the previous ACD held in Hong Kong in 2018, the ACD2022 will be held in Japan hosted by the JDA in August 2022.

Activities of the JDA toward ACD2022

At the 15th International Congress of Dietetics (ICD2008), which was held in Yokohama (hosted by the JDA) in 2008, the Japanese dietitians/registered dietitians and nutrition researchers working on various problems under a rapid globalization on food security/supply will have the opportunity to share Japan's experience in the transition from undernutrition to overnutrition in a short period of time, as well as other global issues, with participants from overseas.
Recently, we have seen a growing awareness of the significance of "the double burden of malnutrition in Asian countries," where undernutrition and overnutrition often co-exist, following nutrition transition due to economic transition. The importance of organizing the ACD in Japan, as a leading country, has been gradually recognized, in order to share our long years of experience related to health and diet/nutrition in Japan and, furthermore, provide information on the registered dietitian/ dietitian system in Japan and the activities of the registered dietitians and dietitians.
Under these circumstances, the JDA officially launched a bid to hold the ACD2022 in Japan in November 2012. The next year, the 1st bidding committee was held, which consisted of executive members of the JDA, on March 23, 2013.
At the ACD2014, held on August 21-24, 2014 in Taiwan, the JDA opened a booth to host the ACD2022, where PR leaflets and guidebook of Yokohama as the host city were distributed to the participants. Thereafter, a resolution for Japan being the host country of the ACD2022 was officially passed and adopted at the AFDA General Assembly on August 22, 2014.

Schedule toward the ACD2022

The 7th Asian Congress of Dietetics (ACD2018) was in Hong Kong on July 6-8. On this occasion, the AFDA General Assembly was held at the congress venue, where the JDA President made a presentation to introduce the ACD2022 in Japan. In prior to the ACD2018, the Organizing Committee of the ACD2022 was launched in March 2018.
Following the 2020 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games, two internationally well-known congresses in the field of nutrition and dietetics will be held in Japan; the 22nd International Congress of Nutrition (ICN2021) and the ACD2022. Under the current global trends on nutrition(including the SDGs), it is expected that these international activities of the JDA will contribute to the enhancement of the global presence of Japan.
